KENYAN YOUTH ENTREPRENEUR APPLICATION FORM 2008
PROPOSAL CHALLENGE
What is Social Entrepreneurship 101: Africa?
Social Entrepreneurship 101: Africa is a project developed by the Sauder School of Business, University of British Columbia (UBC) in Canada. Undergraduate students from UBC will go to Nairobi in August 2008 to work with Kenyan youth who have business plans or business ideas that they would like to develop. During three weeks of workshops, participants will develop and structure their ideas with an eye toward starting up and running successful businesses.
What does the project involve?
The project will involve 3 main things:
(1) Workshops: These will be held each weekday for a three-week period. The workshops will include presentations or lessons designed to teach participants about the different aspects of building and running a project or business.
(2) Mentoring/Consulting Sessions: These will be held for several hours each day during the same three-week period. The mentoring sessions will involve one-on-one work between university students and individuals or groups with business/project ideas. The end goals of these mentoring successions include: (1) developing a strong business proposal that can be presented to sponsors, banks or microfinance advisors and (2) developing a plan of action to start up the project or business.
(3) Guest Speakers: Speakers from universities, businesses and microfinance with some experience or involvement in the business community in Nairobi will give presentations to the participants

How do I get involved? - The Challenge
We are looking for Kenyan youth who have a good idea for a business or project that they think will be helpful for the community around them. Social Entrepreneurship means a business venture or project that has a positive social impact. If you think you have a good idea that has value for the community as well, we want to help you to develop it.
If you have the time to meet with us every day from August 4th to August 22nd and are very keen to develop your idea, then fill out the attached application. Tell us about your idea, and if our team selects it, we will help you plan, structure and build up your project – that is the challenge!
